Teacher Gifts

This year, I am thinking about teacher gifts. Yes, I know a lot of you hate how parents call daycare "school". But, the name of the place is Primrose School, so I guess you'd say the caregivers in our daughter's class are teachers, yes?

My mom and my sister are both teachers. My mom at a private school where most of the families are very affluent. My sister works in special ed in a public school. Their experiences regarding Christmas and holiday gifts are vastly different. I don't think my sister is even acknowledged in any way by the majority of her students' parents. Which is fine, she's not there for the gifts.

My mom. on the other hand. gets way too many gifts every year and most of them she's not sure what to do with. Gift cards, on the other hand, are always great gifts. In fact, one of her fellow teachers, who I'm in Junior League with, went out of her way to ask where my mom shops and eats so her room parents could give her gift cards she would use. Very thoughtful in my opinion.

So, my question is this- Do you working moms give gifts to the caregivers in your child's room at daycare? I'm thinking something like a Starbucks gift card since they generally have something for everyone. Thoughts?

Not being a mom myself...I can't advise what to give. However, my mom, god-mother and over a half dozen of my friends are teachers. Every single one of them prefer gift cards (Staples {great way to buy supplies the school didn't budget for}, Starbucks {COFFEE!!!!!}, and Barnes & Noble/Amazon {Reading is so relaxing!} are among their faves.).

Yes, we normally do a gift card to Target or Barnes & Noble. I know some daycares, schools, etc. keep a notebook of the teachers' preferences, which seems like a good idea.

I'd prefer Target over Starbucks. I have about $100 in gift certificates to Starbucks because I don't really like anything there. There's definitely something for everyone at Target. :)

I always did gift cards at Walker's school - I agree, they are mush more useful. My mom was a teacher too and she used to bring home just boxes of crap every Christmas that she basically gave to us to play with!
