Remember this post? About number 55 of my Life List: Learn to give myself a great manicure.
Well, I'm a little bit afraid that my having started culinary school and not being able to wear nail polish to class or lab will make me lost this newly learned skill.
You see, it's against health code to have painted or artificial nails if you're a chef. I also have to keep them trimmed rather short. (Which, is not an issue for me at all. I get grossed out by long fingernails and keep mine on the short side.) We aren't even allowed to wear clear.
So, I guess I'll be painting them (if I want to wear a color) and taking the polish off the night before class so as to abide by the rules and professionalism.
Oh yeah, we also cannot wear rings, unless they are wedding rings and then they cannot have stones on them. So, I'll be purchasing a plain band to wear since I feel rather naked without my wedding rings...

That's so interesting. I never would have thought about those things. How is school going so far?
Interesting - never would have thought about that, but it makes sense. Thank you for keeping with health codes... now I'm going to look out for nail polish when I'm eating out!
When I worked in a grocery store at the age of 17, we couldn't wear nail polish for similar reasons! I was a cashier! It's amazing what I see people wear now that work in a grocery store...(I sound so old, 34 here).
It's so exciting that you're going to Culinary school!
I can't wait to hear more about culinary school! It sounds like you're learning lots of fun things!
