Gah! House projects!

So, we're in a bit of a pickle over here. The bathroom project we began has escalated to cost more than we anticipated and include less than we wanted. Which means the following:

No new bathtub (read: no usable bathtub since we have this AWFUL jacuzzi tub that's "ergonomic" and yet, so uncomfortable and it never gets used.)

We'll be peeling wallpaper and painting walls. I'm trying to figure out if I can paint over it. Anyone had experience doing this?

We get to look at a partial wall of drywall. Because it can't be mudded (sp?) until the wallpaper is dealt with. Wish I knew this sooner...

I guess when it comes down to it, what do I know? I've never been a homeowner before and everything is SO FREAKING EXPENSIVE! everything!

I mean, I'm so willing to paint walls even if my husband hates painting and I have to do it by myself, but there are some things that you want changed and they seem like a good idea when you begin, but quickly turn out to be different than what you had in your head.

The painter that's helped us out in the past (and who gives great advice, by the way) is coming on Friday to talk wallpaper and paint. I'm hoping that we can just pull down the border and primer over the rest so we can paint. We. Shall. See.

And, if you know me at all, you'll know that I cannot be that house where there are unfinished projects all the time. I have got to finish some of this myself in order to be sane.
And, this is all assuming we won't need to do anything to the "office" in our house in the next year. If only I had a bathtub to let Calgon take me away in...

P.S. I took lots of "before" photos so I could show you the finished project. You won't be seeing them for awhile I guess...

Oh, yuck! I'm like you - I hate having unfinished projects. I would be the person who was up till 3am trying to peel the wallpaper off and get everything ready, because I just can't stand it! I would be careful about painting over the wallpaper. I think your best bet is to just go ahead and remove it. If anything were to happen and moisture got underneath the wallpaper, it would make the paint all bubbly. Plus, I have been in houses where they are trying to remodel and have discovered painted-over wallpaper - not pretty!

The house I'm buying has painted over wallpaper...it's ugly...and high on my list of things to fix.

I'm sorry that this has gotten so expensive! I hope your painter has a few good tips. :-)

I've never painted over wallpaper before but I looked up a lot of tutorials online about it when we were contemplating if it would be better to take down or paint over the wallpaper in our kitchen. In the end we decided to take it down but the painting over process seems pretty straightforward.
