I've been wanting to purchase a digital SLR camera for a long time. And, now seems like it might be a good time in life to do it. (i.e. before we have kids, lots of trips coming up, etc.)
We're thinking about this one, the Nikon D3000, which I'm told is very versatile and doesn't take a bad photo.

Now, the big question is, do I buy it from Amazon and save about fifty bucks and some tax or from the local camera store that includes camera classes with the purchase? I'm leaning towards the local store for the lessons so I can be sure to get the most out of it.
I have a film SLR and I'm thinking it can't be SO different, but it's also been years since I used it because of the film aspect.
Do you all use a DSLR? If so, which one?

I have the Nikon D3000 and it is a phenomenal camera! I highly recommend it. Also, I would go with the camera classes through the store. There's so many little details with the camera that i think classes would help with.
My husband just bought me this camera - the quality of pictures is absolutely amazing! And, yes, I would definitely go with the classes - there are a bunch of cool quirks that will really help you take fantastic pictures!
I don't have a camera like that yet but I really want to get one in the future. I would go with the classes!
I have the canon rebel and I LOVE it. Nikon is a great brand too.
I'm working my way up to a DSLR. I currently have (and love) the Panasonic Lumix FZ35, and I'm using it as my "starter" camera. It has a great (fixed) lens (Leica!) and, on the manual setting, will let you shoot in RAW. My husband bought it for me for Christmas, and he got it at the Wolf/Ritz camera by our house - along with those classes. I haven't been to one yet, but I really should go. I'm sure it would help a lot! It's definitely nice having the option, though, so that's what I would recommend.
I got a Nikon D60 from Target on sale, and I love it! If you'd rather save money, there are online tutorials and stuff to help you learn!
Go for the classes! SLRs have SO many different features that are awesome- but not always the easiest to figure out on your own. I'm so jealous btw! =]
