Boeuf Bourguignon

Tonight we had our church small group at our house. We consist of five families, three of which have small children. Obviously, we are one who does not. We do a sort of round robin when it comes to hosting and tonight we were at our home. The host family generally prepares the main dish since it's generally the least portable.

Now, you all know I love to cook. Soooo, I got a bit ambitious today and decided to make Julia Child's Boeuf Bourguignon. I have to admit it was a bit intimidating and I was a bit apprehensive to make it but knew I had to do it when it was more than just the two of us here to eat it. I mean the recipe calls for three pounds of beef!

Most of the cooks I know who make this have offered this advice - don't do anything else while doing all of the steps prior to putting it into the oven for the long slow cooking. And, if you decide to make this, take that advice. Don't answer the phone, don't try to do laundry, just focus on the food. There's a bunch of steps, but it's so worth it.

It was very well received and I think everyone liked it a bunch. And, we had enough for all of us adults so it makes a large amount. My husband called it a success, which is always my goal!

The recipe suggests serving it with potatoes. Not knowing what side dishes others were bringing I made rice to go with it. I would recommend the potatoes as the rice seemed to dull the deep flavors a bit. But, that's just me.

By the way, if you'd like the recipe I'd be more than happy to share it with you (but, it's way too long to post here, trust me). Leave me a comment or email me and I'll send it to you.

It sounds delish, Sara! I'd love the recipe, if you don't mind. :-)

I'd love the recipe as well - I can't say I'll try it soon, but I may try it for Christmas!
