Friday night, as you might have figured out I had my nose stuck in a book. See my review here. We ate leftovers since I'm trying to be better about the amount of food we waste. We were going to see a movie, but got in the car too late to go to the theater with the parking garage attached. Seeing as it was pouring rain, I was a total girl and didn't want to get soaked so we didn't go. Instead, I went back to my book and my husband went back to sports. (Go figure.)
Saturday, my sister was having a birthday party for my niece. It was going to be at my dad and stepmother's (that still seems weird to type, I have to admit) but seeing as how it had been raining for 24 hours and was not going to let up they had to make a plan B. Well, my sister is so good she found a hotel nearby with an indoor pool and rented it instead. Now, I'm certain this blew her budget, but all the kids had a blast. Since my assistance wasn't needed to help out at my dad's I went to a friend's baby shower I didn't think I would be able to go to.
It was a "display shower" and I had never heard of such a thing until I received the invitation to hers. Have you heard of this? Basically, you take your gifts, unwrapped and they're just set out. There's no gift opening during the shower. Well, that's part of the fun for me, picking out the cute wrapping and card. Seems, like a better idea for a bridal shower than a baby shower, no?
Anyhow, her and her husband had just moved in to there brand new home in a historical part of Fort Worth and it is such a cute house. They have a great porch and added so many details to keep the feeling of the neighborhood and how houses were built back in the day.
Saturday night we didn't do a thing! Well, okay we went out for wings so the husband could watch more football while eating dinner.
Sunday, we went to church (in separate cars - again football was a factor) and met my sister's family for lunch for my niece's actual birthday. For her birthday I gave her some of my favorite books from when I was her age. My sis and my mom, both teachers, were wondering if the content was too mature. Hmmm, now I feel like a bad aunt. I gave her The Little Princess and The Secret Garden. What do you think? Too mature? Also, a Carl Hiassen book that I know is okay. I bought Watership Down, but after getting it home deemed it too mature on my own.
Sunday night dinner was grilled pork chops. I haven't eaten pork since high school
Anywhoo... that was our weekend
P.S. At church the boy scouts were handing out boxes for parishioners to fill up and sent as care packages. Any suggestions of what to include? There's a good list, but I want to be sure I'm putting good stuff in there. Thanks!

Even if a book is too mature now, can't it just stay in her "library" for when she's older? I loved having books to look forward to when I was a kid.
Also, I have tried, and tried, and tried again - and I just cannot make a pork dish that I like at home. It always comes out too tough!
I loved those books when I was little. I don't really care for pork either. I meant to tell you that I used my initial bowl (from winning your giveaway) again this weekend and I love it!
