Many of you know that I’m a new Catholic. Well, this weekend was our church’s Feast Day festival. (We are members of Good Shepherd and they host a festival on the weekend that we read the passage about the Feast of the Good Shepherd. Well, thanks to Swine Flu it was postponed.) It was so freaking hot. I mean just standing outside I was sweating through my legs. My legs, I tell you. Ho hot and humid does it have to be for your leg pores to sweat? Pretty damn hot! Needless to say the rest of me was sweating like a glass of iced tea on a hot deck. (I hate that I have overactive sweat glands, hate it.)
So, we had two volunteer shifts, one from 4 – 5 and one from 7 – 8. The logic behind this was that we’d work for a bit, go to Mass, have dinner and then work another shift. Well, I have NEVER gone into a church in such a state. One, I was way casual (flip flops, shorts) and two, really gross (sweaty and hot). But, there were plenty of others who were in the same boat we were.
OK, onto explaining the title of this post. You should know I grew up Methodist and while they’re not as conservative as Baptists, they’re way more conservative than Catholics. Agreed? So, I go to buy our meal tickets and notice that the adult meal comes with a beverage. Oh, OK, I’m thinking it’s a soda or iced tea. Nope, it’s a beer or glass of wine. And, each meal gets not just one adult beverage, but two. Only at a Catholic fair! Don’t get me wrong, I drank my two beers and enjoyed them. As did the husband. We were actually a bit worried that after our second shift they would have run out of beer. (No worries, there was plenty for all. Ha!)All in all, we were very proud to be a part of the festival. All of the kids seemed to be having a great time.

I had no idea that Catholics were so easy going! I grew up Methodist too and never really thought anything of it, but I guess it makes more sense now. Hmm...so THAT'S why the music was always so churchy (so NOT a word)and serious and everyone dressed so nice compared to other places...hmmm.
That is so funny that they handed you beer at a church function! I would have cracked up!! I've never been to a Catholic function as I grew up non-denominational/Baptist, but I'm thinking I need to go to one just to test it out :)
Hahaha so funny and awkward they handed you a beer!!!
