To Tree or Not To Tree

That is the question.

I’ve been seriously considering not having a Christmas tree this year.

Gasp!

What?

Yep. I even surprise myself. Not because I’m in a hurry to put up a tree every year. In fact, since we get a real tree every year (this was one of the bonus point items for my husband when we were dating) we don’t even have one up until about December 15th anyhow.

But this year we’ll be in Baton Rouge the weekend prior to Christmas and the weekend of Christmas with the husband staying over during the week. (Can I just say that I WISH I had his vacation time?) So, you see, we won’t really be home to enjoy it much this year.

Granted, he has a point when he says that we’ll have it up until Epiphany (January 6th) so we’ll have the time after Christmas, but I’m going back to The Netherlands on the 9th and I’m pretty sure I won’t want to be rushed in taking it down and putting things away.

I suggested getting a nice live wreath, but I don’t think the husband is convinced that’s an acceptable substitute. But, then again, I don’t have to worry about a wreath drying out and burning the house down…

What would you do? Have you ever not had a Christmas tree?

AH! I have not always had a Christmas tree in "my" room, but I have always had one in wherever I am living. :-)

There has only been one year that I didn't have a tree. That year, we bought a tree, got it set up (somewhere around December 10th) and a few hours later it started smelling REALLY funky. After the stech started gagging people, we took the tree down and just didn't replace it. Turns out a moose peed on our tree - something that didn't become evident until the tree warmed up. ICK!!

Maybe you could get a small decorative (not live) tree for a table top?

I had the same dilemma last year; we ended up putting up the tree, and I'm glad we did!
