I went to see Eat. Pray. Love this weekend with my mom and sister. I enjoyed the movie SO much more than the book. In fact, I never even finished the book.
One thing stuck with me from the Eat (or Italy) part of the film.
One of the characters say that Americans don't take pleasure in life enough. That we don't appreciate the art of doing nothing. Which I think is true. We always need to be entertained. I know in our house the television is always on. And yet, a lot of the time we aren't watching anything. It's just on.
I often save the candles for special occasions.
And, don't use the good dishes as often as we could.
And, I ration my good lotions and soaps. Why? Am I waiting for someone to say it's okay to use them? Am I hoping I'll get a special occasion?
A few of these things made it onto my Life List:
14) Drink wine from our crystal on a weeknight.
29) Burn the nice candles.
48) Use the nice perfume because it’s Tuesday.
51) Use the formal dining pieces just because.
I'm going to make more of an effort to be able to cross these things off of my list. How about you?

I LOVE this post. Thank you for the reminder that it's okay to use nice things. You get NO pleasure from them sitting on a shelf or in the back of a closet, right?
I am for some reason strange about my bath towels. We received all of these beautiful towels for our wedding, and I find myself using our old cheapie ones that I used before we got married.
I agree! I LOVE this post as well! Very inspiring!
i completely agree with you that the movie is better than the book! and the italy section really spoke to me too. i used to save the good perfume but now i spray it everyday! using special things make every day seem special! :)
I agree 100% with you on this!! I have things like candles stashed away that I need to burn because I honestly don't know why I am saving them. I have gotten a lot better at using the things I own, because if they are just sitting there then they serve no purpose at all. Great post! :)
I have to say I loved the book way more than the movie. I think the best thing about the book is how it goes deeper about the relationships with the people she meets. They didnt do a good job of that on the movie.
I do agree that we need to spend more time enjoying life.
