A few things I noticed

While in The Netherlands I noticed some differences in the Dutch culture from my own. These are just a few of the things that bothered my enough to write them down. For the most part people were friendly, but different. Does that make sense?

Anyhow, here's a list of things that were startlingly different (to me at least).

Techno music - all of the cabs and restaurants are playing techno music it seems.

Low talking - remember that Seinfeld episode with the low talker? That's how all the Dutch are. The all speak English for the most part, but they talk so low you have to ask them to repeat themselves.

Bumping into people - Um, yeah, so nobody moves over on the sidewalk. They all just plow into each other. It made me crazy!

Ladies skin care - They need some. Period. Every night I went back to my room and practically used up all my moisturizer. Must be the climate.

Coffee - It's the kind that will put hair on your chest. It's stout!

French fries & mayo - This combo is not so bad actually, and I don't like mayo. The frites are really good there.

All in all, I really enjoyed being in The Netherlands. The food was good usually and the people friendly. I will happily go back when it's warmer out!

Have you ever been to another country and been taken aback by some of the differences?

I was in Belgium a few years ago, and thought they had the best frites in the world! But I really don't like mayo... so I had to eat them without condiments. :-)

The rudest country I've ever been in is France. I hear that in the country, the folks are extremely nice - but in Paris, people gave me wrong directions ON PURPOSE. Frustrating.
