It was scary

Our little dog had a seizure last night. It was very scary. She was perfectly fine and then trotted over to her food when she suddenly froze and couldn't stop shaking.

Anyone with dachshunds knows how scary it can be when they walk funny. You immediately wonder if they've hurt their back. It lasted longer than normal and I was ready to jump in the car and take her to the emergency vet. The only reason I didn't, and I say this with a caveat that a vet told me this, was because she was conscious and aware of us the whole time. I watched the clock thinking she might not be aware at some point, but she was.

She looked so scared and small the whole time.

I'm not gonna lie, it caused some tension between my husband and me. I get so nervous when this happens, I mean I've known people who's dogs have died from seizures and I'm not ready to let her go. It didn't make it any better that my husband was holding her after she came out of it a bit and she threw up on him. Poor thing! (Dog, not husband. He's washable.)

Anyhow, today she seems okay and back to her normal self. But, man, for a while last night I was so worried.

Anyone else's dogs have seizures? Especially dachshunds? I'd like to know how you take care of them during and after.

Oh no! Your poor puppy! That must be so scary. My friend has a Great Dane that has seizures, and it is very frightening when he has one. I hope your puppy is feeling better!!

I haven't had that experience yet, but wish I had some good advice for you.

Our Chihuahua has seizures. He has them a couple of times a month. We never have been able to figure out what causes them and refuse to take him to the vet so that we can pay over $1000 to have them figure out that he needs meds that cost a huge amount each month. He doesn't seem to have any side effects and usually sleeps afterwards and then is fine. It certainly is scary. Let me know what you find out.
