This morning I had an appointment with a new dentist. I had tried to get in last month and even went to the office for an appointment but was left waiting ninety (yes, 90) minutes so I had to leave to get to work.
Well, I rescheduled for a 7am appointment (yeah, that was fun, being half asleep while getting my teeth cleaned) today. Luckily, all my paperwork had been filled out at the last attempt so I didn't have to do that again. Phew!
So, I knew it would be a rough cleaning since I hadn't been in about eight months due to scheduling (read: laziness on my part) issues. What I didn't expect was for them to tell me I had three, count'em three cavities! Excuse me? Yep, They're very small and I have teeth that are very close together so I have to be very diligent in flossing. (I try, OK?)
So, I'm sitting there and the hygienist starts trying to sell me a fluoride treatment and chatting about how well my teeth will receive it having just been scraped clean, etc., etc.
"OK, I'll do the fluoride. It's only $15. that's worth it since it's been a while."
Then she asks if I whiten my teeth. Well, yes I did before I got married. (Oh, you know you did too. We all want pearly whites for the most expensive pictures we'll ever take, right?) Well, how are you doing on your gel? We can refill it if you need us to.
"I'm good, thanks."
Enter the dentist. He was nice and very friendly. Good bedside manner. (Not bad looking either.) He mentions the cavities, of course, and then we chat about how I'm certain I've been grinding again. He asks if I've ever had orthodontic work done and I say no. (I'm just before the generation where every kid got braces so they would have perfect teeth.) He goes on to explain about my bite and how it may be affecting (read: causing) my migraines.
Here's a card for a doctor near here...
So, as I was scheduling my next appointment I had to wait a few minutes and couldn't help thinking I felt like I had just taken my car in for an oil change and leave with a tire rotation, new air filter, and wiper blades. You know that feeling? I know it's there job, but goodness!
P.S. I've been pondering scheduling a consult with the Ortho to get more information. I've never had my bite explained so clearly as to how it could possibly relate to my migraines.
And, seeing as I have TONS of trepidation about going off the pill and all my meds when we decide to try for a family, I'm very interested in exploring my options. I know it would be expensive, but I'm certain my husband and I will agree it's worth it.
