Help me decide which to choose...

OK, ladies! I've made a decision this week. I'm going to join Weight Watchers or some other weight loss program. I am the heaviest I have ever been. More of my pants are not fitting than are and it's getting me down. Last week I thought I just had water weight gain (you know what I mean), but alas this week isn't any better. I'm not so worried about the number on the scale as I am about how my clothes fit. I really don't want to have to buy new clothes. I'm technically not overweight (I am tall for a girl), but I don't feel good about myself right now.

So, my question is this - Have you ever tried these programs? Which ones worked the best? I'm kind of shying away from the ones that make you eat pre-packaged food as it's very important to me that hubby and I have dinner together. I was doing really good walking the dog every day but no weight changes happened. I'm starting to think that it's going to be quite hard to shed the pounds now that I'm over thirty. (Please pause for a moment of silence.) Also, I think I need to quit drinking. I love my glass of wine with dinner and hanging out at the kickball fields having a few beers, but I think my figure is paying the price. Sigh...

Any advice would be most appreciated! Have a great day!

Sara,
First of all, you are beautiful and such a sweet friend! I tried WW once but thought the meetings were hokey and cheesey! But if you are in a good group, it may not be so bad! The thing that has worked for me is joining 24 hour with Jeremy. That way, we are still spending time together and working out! A routine is key for me to lose weight and see results! Also doubling up on fruits and veggies has shown big results, but sure you already do that!

Hope this helps!!!

I am a huge proponent of Weight Watchers. Yes, the meetings can sometimes be a little cheesy - but for me its the having to go weigh in each week that kept me accountable. Admittedly I'm not officially doing Weight Watchers right now, but it did help me to lose almost 25 lbs before my wedding. I'm considering going back again because I've gained some back since the wedding. The program is great. You can eat whatever you want - its all about portion control - and learning to make healthy choices. I think you can go to your first meeting for free to give it a try - maybe go and check it out. Some leaders are better than others, so you may want to experiment with going to different meeting times/locations to find a leader that you like. For me its really all about the program though - and the online tools are really helpful for finding recipes, advice and tracking your eating/activity throughout the week. I haven't really tried anything else - except for just watching what I eat. I agree that I wouldn't want to do something where you have to eat their food - because you need to learn how to cook healthy meals for yourself and go out and live a normal life. Good luck!

I noticed that you mentioned drinking a glass of wine with dinner, I don't know how often you do this, but my mom has a friend who LOVES wine with her dinner, but for lent decided that would be what she chose to give up, and as a result lost about 7lbs! So if you cut that consumption I think you'll see some fast results. Good luck!

Weight Watchers - FOR SURE. I lost 25 pounds doing WW last year. It is a very easy program to follow, in my opinion, and it really works because it doesn't tell you not to eat certain things and it helps you be conscious of what you are eating because of counting points. I agree with Mrs. Buck that the meetings can be a little cheesy but having to go weigh in is also such a motivator for me. Just knowing other people will see whether or not you did well makes a big difference for me. Good luck!
